🔗 Jacob Harris: Why I Don’t Vibe Code

[…] even as the better tooling has diminished accidental complexity, essential complexity still remains. There still is the complicated work of designing our abstractions and systems the right way, one that is elegant, clear and maintainable. And that complexity isn’t going anywhere. This type of work takes skill and experience and wisdom hard-won from system failures past. And, I’m not sure if LLM’s fancy autocomplete approach works so well with this type of complexity, which often isn’t so straightforward to solve.

It feels like just 6 months ago, my timelines were full of posts about “permacomputing” and resilience in the face of collapse. Now it’s how the future of computing is paying $200 a month to companies to run giant datacenters so you can vibecode photoshop for clicks.

📺🇦🇺 Colin from Accounts SE03

The show concludes. This season wasn’t as tight as the 2 previous ones, despite the attempts to jack up the awkwardness. Still worth seeing.

I learned from IMDB that the creators / protagonists are a married couple. Another show we have enjoyed is the Swedish Populära problem, also created by an (ex)couple and we believe the shows have at least some thematic similarities.

Awarding the Peace Prize to a female former ICC judge from South Africa is as if the committee tried to find the polar opposite to Trump in every way.

🔗 Pivot to AI — Mythos: not the magical AI hacking tool after all

Anthropic claimed to have found 26,000 security holes up to September. Only 2,000 of those were reported to the software projects in question by September. Apparently, the bottleneck was Anthropic having enough humans to check the holes were real […]

The hard problem in AI is where you hide the human.

🔗 Elisabeth Nelson: My Aim Is True (49th Anniversary Edition)

It is 1977 and a small man with a bulging bag of vexations has arrived at the door uninvited. With his strange name and Buddy Holly glasses, he seems vaguely ridiculous, and not the sort of person we’d be likely to discuss a half-century later. And yet his first LP is a masterpiece—one of a string of them that would elevate him to stratospheric prominence.

Cheryl Rofer @ LGM: AI Safety

The excuses coming from the AI companies reek of a religious mindset that compels them to build these models. They’ve added on competition with China as a motivator to ignore safety, and Donald Trump is fine with that. But most of us aren’t. We don’t want humans to go extinct, and we don’t want the internet broken. We need adults in charge outside of the cult that is driving this.

I am shocked to learn that a politician active in a far-right party in a country with a long tradition of anti-semitism is credibly accused of being anti-semitic in his youth.

Actually, I’m not that shocked.

🔗 ploum: The AI Pascal’s Wager

While mass marketing is trying to instill a Fear of Missing Out hysteria, the most rational and pragmatic approach is to strongly reject all AI-generated contributions to your projects. For now.
